Create December Ease: Let Go of What No Longer Fits

December can be the most stressful month of the year. Whether you face year-end deadlines, unique family dynamics, or self-imposed expectations, this month tends to be a perfect storm of stress and overwhelm for many.

Wouldn’t it feel SO GOOD to embrace ease instead?

Here in midlife and beyond, you can choose to alter your December story. With a bit of reflection and intention, you can honor your shifting energy and priorities.

You can create ease in December when you let go of what no longer fits.

Here are three simple places to begin:

1. Release the routines that no longer support you

So many of the things we do in December are habits leftover from earlier seasons of life. Maybe they made sense when your values were different or when you felt responsible for creating a certain kind of “holiday magic.”

But if a routine now feels heavy, stressful, or out of alignment, it’s okay to loosen your grip.

Ask yourself:
“If I were starting fresh today, would this still make sense for me?”

If the answer is no, that’s your cue to shift, simplify, or let it go entirely.

Ease often begins with honesty.

2. Step back from being the go-to person for everything

Many women in midlife carry an invisible workload that becomes especially intense in December - managing the plans, buying the gifts, coordinating schedules, navigating emotions, remembering everyone’s needs.

You don’t have to be the one who holds it all.

Share responsibilities. Ask others to take the lead. Say, “I can’t take that on this year.”
You’re not letting anyone down - you’re honoring your own capacity.

And when you lighten your load, you create space for a calmer, more meaningful month.

3. Choose fewer commitments, so you have more presence

It’s tempting to try to make everything fit: events, gatherings, work functions, family obligations, and traditions. But feeling pulled in too many directions drains the joy out of the month.

Try this simple, grounding framework:
One priority. One optional. Everything else is a bonus.

One thing you must show up for. One thing you want to show up for. Everything else becomes a true choice rather than an obligation.

When you give your schedule more breathing room, you give yourself more breathing room.

Choose a December that supports who you are today

Letting go isn’t quitting. It’s not selfish. It’s a powerful acknowledgment that you’ve evolved. Your December can evolve with you.

You deserve a month that feels calm, steady, and more aligned with this version of you.

Ease is available to you, and it begins with what you choose to release.
